Rigging Guard is an Anti Corrosion Wax comprising of a special blend of waxes, oils and greases which prevents rust, corrosion, oxidisation and verdigris (green deposits) on all types of metals including: all metal rigging, anchors, chains, cable, wire rope, winches, standing rigging plus metal hawse pipes, window frames, guard wire fittings, wiper arms and spindles, decorative bronze and copper etc.
Whilst Rigging Guard is aimed primarily at Yachts it’s an extremely versatile product and will also be beneficial to small ships, workboats, motor boats and small scale architectural rigging found on bridges, walkways and buildings (for larger comercial solutions to corrosion control please see ACW Coatings).
Insurance companies are now insisting on better maintenance of standing rigging so it makes sense to use a product such as this to help limit maintenance and replacement cost of expensive gear. Rigging Guard will ensure rust prone fittings, cables, anchor chains etc remain in pristine condition. It will also aid the free running of windlasses on the foredeck and will reduce the effort of hauling in the anchor. This is especially helpful if you have an electric winch as it will take less current to lift the anchor if it is free running thereby making your battery last longer and takes the strain off the motor.
Rigging Guard prevents corrosion on all types of metal including decorative copper and brass. Just a thin smear will banish oxidisation for up to a year. The best thing is it simply wipes off with white spirit so no more trying to remove varnish from your brass clock. A quick re polish and an application of Rigging Guard will see your bright work protected.
Clearly Rigging Guard will help prevent dismasting as a lot of these situations are caused by lack of maintenance. It is not a substitute for regular inspections and replacement where necessary but it will cut the amount of down time and the costs of replacement parts will be significantly reduced.
